About Me

Headshot of Moritz Valero. He has a short beard, short, wavy hair and is wearing a tweet jacket.

I’m Moritz Valero, a Filmmaker and Access Coordinator with disabilities from Germany, living in London. I am interested in creating stories and crafting performances that move the audience and carry a message. Having been a former professional dancer and choreographer, I have experience in shaping performances in film as well as in movement. Now, I am looking to create TV and HETV scripted drama, as well as feature films.

I trained at the NFTS and MetFilm School and am a Directors UK member.

Having seen and experienced the lack of disability representation and access/ support first hand, I am passionate about improving disability matters in the industry - whether that is in front/ behind the camera or in storylines.

To push for positive change, I am working as an Access Coordinator and have also been a speaker for various organisations such as:
Film London, multiple NHS events, The Autism Show and I created a masterclass called “Disabled Filmmakers in Film and Television” during my masters.

Since graduating, I have been supported by Film London, Creativity Squared - Equal Access Network as well as The Media Trust & ScreenSkills where I am mentored by Sara Johnson (founder of Bridge06).

Most recently, I have been awarded the prestigious ‘Inspire‘ mentorship by Directors UK where I am mentored by director Jordan Hogg.

Take Your Mark

Status: Unreleased (Festival Run)

- Short film -

- Proof of concept for A TV Series -

A teenager with a disability tries out for her local swimming team in order to fulfil her dream of becoming a Paralympian.

Take Your Mark is a first-of-it’s-kind, fully disability inclusive project, encompassing all aspects from script to screen and boasting a quota of 15% off-screen contributors involved with a disability.

  • The project is a proof of concept for a TV series and was created by myself and my producer, Leonie Schmidt as our graduation project from MetFilm School, trying to establish a new groundbreaking way to challenge the industry standard on how to work with people with disabilities and create disabled lead storylines. This positive message is at the heart of the project and is even supported by Team GB, British Paraswimming which lead to Grace Harvey (Paralympian and Silver Medalist) featuring in our crowdfund.

The short film features Jordan Quinn who has Cerebral Palsy and was written by Andrew Burrell, an established writer with a disability who worked for BBC, Disney and Netflix shows.

Throughout the casting process with Carolyn McLeod, we cast “disability blind” for our lead (meaning anyone with any disability could apply) and used a spec script. After finding Jordan we fit the story completely to her and her experiences with her disability, as well as her experiences in life. This allowed us to be truthful to how her condition presents itself for her (as even the same condition can present itself differently for each individual) and adjusting the overall storyline - something that has never been done before in this way.
